We were informed by a reliable source that iOS 5 should be available 30 September at 10 PST the same time as the previous update releases.
Generation of Apple's iPhone will be available in stores starting Friday 7 October. The report is also included that pre-orders of 5 iPhone will be available from Friday, September 30. So the date of release of iOS 5 is probably true as traditionally Apple releases a new update to the public two days before the release of new iPhone hardware.
